The AS/400. The System i. The i Series. The IBM i.
The platform that’s come to be known as the IBM i platform has had many preceding names. At ASNA, we’ve struggled internally with what to call the platform in our sales and product documentation documents. We’ve decided that to minimize the noise, we’re only going to the call the platform the “IBM i.” That’s generally what we’ve seen the IBM i midrange press settle on—and it seems to make the most sense to us.
So please understand that when you read about our IBM i modernization tools, our IBM i RPG compiler, or our IBM i application migration platform, these are tools and platforms that apply equally to the AS/400, the System i, and the iSeries. Less important than the machine name is the version of i5 OS (or OS/400 if you prefer) that you’re using. ASNA DataGate works with IBM’s i5 OS V5R4 and up.
Call the platform what you will, but remember that your IBM i5 OS version is what matters to us.
