The ASNApalooza hands-on labs are back this year by popular demand! This year’s Palooza features three hands-on labs. Seats will be available on a first-come, first-service basis. We’ll open seat registration for the labs in January. Earlybird ASNApalooza registrants (those who register before December 31st) will get first chance to register for lab seats.
Lab #1: How to modernize an RPG application with Wings
Come to this session to learn firsthand how quick and easy it is to put a modern browser interface on your green-screen RPG programs. This session puts you in the driver’s seat as you go through the entire Wings workflow. You’ll quickly see why Wings is ASNA’s hottest new product! This lab covers:
- Wings and IBM’s Open Access
- Preparing your RPG program for modernization
- Importing display files
- Customizing display files
Lab #2: Visual Studio 2010 tips and techniques
After this hands-on lab, you’ll be using Visual Studio like a pro. This lab shows you insider tips and techniques for how to get the most out of Visual Studio. You’ll learn to use many of the very powerful, but sometimes well-hidden features. Using these features will dramatically improve your Visual Studio productivity. This lab covers:
- Using the Visual Studio debugger
- Managing Visual Studio windows effectively
- Using Search and Replace like the pros do
- Configuring Visual Studio for optimal use with AVR
Lab #3: Becoming an IIS Jedi Master
IIS is often the root canal of Web development. You can work for weeks in Visual Studio, creating a great app and generally living a happy and wonderful live. But, when deployment time comes, IIS can suck all of the love out of the room in about 20 seconds. This session digs into some of the details and intracacies of IIS. After attending this session, you’ll be able to show IIS who is boss and keep the love in the room. Beyond IIS, this session will also cover some of the basics of Web application deployment. This lab covers:
- How, and why, you might want to use IIS 7.5 Express from within Visual Studio
- The steps for deploying for your Web app
- How to perform basic IIS configuration
- Troubleshooting IIS and Web application deployment
