Question
Can I run more than one instance of DataGate on my IBM i?
Answer
Yes. You can run multiple versions of DataGate on the IBM i. The only constraint is that each instance must be assigned to a unique TCP/IP address during installation. While it isn’t absolutely necessary, it’s generally best to install a second instance while no other instances of DataGate are running.
In a related footnote, all versions of DataGate on the IBM i use the same caching library, DG8_VCAT72. See this article for more information on DG8_VCAT72.
Question
Can I run more than one instance of the ASNA WebPak on my Windows Web Server?
Answer
No–but the answer isn’t as brutal as it sounds. ASNA WebPak is backwards compatible. That is, the ASNA WebPak version 16.x successfully runs 16.x _and_ under applications.
We’ve encountered several customers who don’t know this and some have several instances of WebPak on their Windows Web Server. Don’t do this! ASNA Windows policies ensure that all app requests are routed to the latest version of ASNA WebPak installed. The older versions are just taking up space and probably causing confusion.
Newer versions of ASNA WebPak remove the previous version during the WebPak install. However, you may have some really old WebPak versions on your Windows Web Server (that predate this uninstall feature). Know that they don’t matter and that they can be uninstalled. The only one that matters is the newest one.
