Letter from the President

This has been a great year for ASNA due to the wonderful support we have received from all the ASNA customers. I want to thank you all and wish you all a very happy holiday season. The launch of our new product Wings at the end of 2010 was very well received and we are thrilled with the responses we have had. There have been some great successes and we look forward to many more in 2012.

2011 is the 30th Anniversary for ASNA which is exciting for all of us. Going into our 31st year you can expect to hear important new offerings from ASNA. We will keep you posted.

Please remember we love to get feedback from customers regarding your successes or product enhancement requests. Keep them coming.

We have spent the last few months redesigning our Website http://asna.com. Please take a moment to visit the new site and let us know if you have any input. Over the next few months we will be redesigning devnet.asna.com and will be improving it both for content and navigation.

I look forward to seeing many of you in San Antonio at ASNApalooza in April 2012.

Happy Holidays!

ASNApalooza 2011 dances its way into attendees’ hearts and brains

ASNApalooza 2011 was recently held near London, in Crawley, England. More than 75 attendees from across Europe gathered to hear presentations about ASNA’s products. The theme of this year’s event was “Planning for the future while preserving the past.” The content focused on three focus areas: strategic guidance for AVR Classic users, IBM i RPG modernization, and ASNA Visual RPG for .NET.

The speakers included ASNA US-based Tim Jannsen, Eduardo Ross, and Roger Pence. While attendees rated the US speakers very highly, Nigel Illingworth, the Product Service Director for UK’s Retail Assist Ltd, also drew rave reviews. Nigel presented the ASNApalooza keynote on Retail Assist’s success with ASNA Monarch to migrate their retail supply chain solution to .NET. Thank you, again, Nigel for such a great presentation!

In addition to many great sessions, there was also plenty of time for the attendees to network with both each other and members of the ASNA team. On the event’s first evening, attendees were treated to a superb dinner at the Arora Gatwick/Crawley Hotel. After the dinner, there was an exhibition of English morris dancing–with many brave attendees participating in the dancing!

Plans are in the works now for ASNApalooza 2012. It will be held April 23/24 in San Antonio, Texas, at the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel. See our new page for ASNApalooza 2012 details.

ASNA presents Hands on Technical Training Seminar for Wings and OAR in Ft. Lauderdale and Las Vegas

ASNA announces two free ASNA Hands on Technical Training Seminar for Wings and OAR in Ft. Lauderdale and Las Vegas on February 9th and 24th, respectively. In these workshops ASNA’s Roger Pence will show how to use ASNA Wings to modernize RPG green-screen user interfaces. These workshops follow two previous, very successful, half-day workshops in Raleigh/Durham and Cincinnati last September.

ASNA Wings is a revolutionary new product that modernizes IBM i RPG character-based user interfaces. Wings is a member of the ASNA Monarch family of RPG modernization products. Using IBM’s Open Access RPG Edition, all RPG programming logic and file IO remains on the IBM i. ASNA Wings converts green screens into browser-based replacements.

In these fast-paced, hands-on workshops, Roger explains IBM’s Open Access, Wings’ architecture, and then shows how to use Wings. He’ll also show how to add vital enhancements to the presentation layer - without needing to change or retest your server-side RPG logic. He’ll also discuss the business reasons for application modernization and how Wings fits into your long-term application migration strategy.

Getting to know Visual Studio 2010′s Interactive Debugger

Visual Studio 2010′s interactive debugger is very powerful. In talking to many AVR users, however, I’ve come to realize that much of its power can elude even the most sophisticated AVR coder. This article presents a look at some very useful features of VS’s interactive debugger.
