Why do I get the License Manager Error 1223 when I try to connect DataGate to my IBM i?

This error is caused when subsystem hosting DataGate is ended while DataGate is running. The usual resolution is to stop DataGate on the IBM i and delete the ADBLICMPID data area.

DataGate License Manager Error 1223: License manager PID data area could not be deleted, when trying to connect to your AS/400 Database.

Symptoms

 DataGate appears to be running normally; however, any attempt to connect to DataGate/400 via the Database Manager results in the error:

License Manager Error 1223: License manager PID data area could not be deleted.

Usually caused by

Terminating the subsystem while DataGate is running, resulting in the ADBLICMPID data area residing on disk.

Usual resolution 

Stop DataGate on the IBM i and delete the ADBLICMPID data area.
